The wait is finally over for pool fans and players from Ontario and across Canada. First events off are the Open snooker championships, Women's amateur nine ball and Men's amateur nine ball followed by the men's and women's open divisions later in the week. Play for all divisions begins at 9am Wednesday morning.

The Men's Open Snooker division will once again be one of the the showcase events for this years championships. Former world #5 and Toronto native Kirk Stevens will be back to defend his title. Alain Robidoux former world championship semi-finalist is also among many top players in competition along with former champions Ed galati, Floyd Ziegler, John Whiite and perennial threats Jeff Kennedy, Lester Mianskum and Fern Loyer. The first few days will feature round robin matches with two players from each group advancing to the single knockout stages.

The amateur men's nine ball is boasting a full field of 64 players this year and should produce many great matches before the eventual winner is determined in this double elimination tournament. Players will be playing for a bigger prize fund this year due to the larger field, the winner will also receive an entry into the open division next year.

Also starting today is the women's amateur 9-ball with a field of 13 players. Good luck to all players commencing play today.
